Six Sweet New Summer Style Trends for Every Guy
Summer Style
Summer is coming, but there are still plenty of ways to beat the heat without having to throw fashion to the wind. Here are six of the most popular trends for you to take advantage of this summer:
Cuban Collars
Throwbacks are all the rage, and you shouldn’t be surprised to see many of your dad’s ’70s and ’80s summer style coming back into fashion. The tropical statement shirt is all the rage, but that doesn’t mean you can just run out and start rocking Tommy Bahama button-downs everywhere. Try going for something with a bold print to make a strong statement without looking too much like a tourist. This post on the newfound popularity of Cuban collars recommends trading in your traditional polyester for cotton, resulting in a shirt that’s airy, breathable and sure to be your new favorite summer shirt.
Wider Pants
Skinny jeans are so two years ago and wearing pants that actually properly fit (or even have a little extra room) is the style of the day. While you shouldn’t necessarily go to the opposite extreme and bust out your JNCOs from middle school, finding a looser-fitting pair of jeans or slacks would go a long way and keep you much more comfortable. Your legs will thank you when the mid-summer heat rolls around.
Old School Caps
It’s hard to beat the classic, understated baseball cap. You know what we’re talking about, the one your dad or uncle (the fun one, not the creepy one) used to wear during Labor Day BBQs or fishing trips. This list on the influence of dad fashion points out that you can’t go wrong with a great cap summer-style wise, but skip the irony or any slogans. And absolutely no trucker hats.
The Perfect Polo
Every man needs to have at least three in their wardrobe. The right polo pairs with anything and is perfect for everything from the office to the beach while both looking good and being supremely comfortable. We found some great polo inspiration from this site’s variety of styles from stripes to solids to more subtle gradients with an oceanic feel that has us sending just the right summer vibes.
Classic Sneakers
This summer marks the return of the old school, and you can’t do better than a pair of classic sneakers. One article points to timeless Adidas trainers as the shoe of the day, and there are many styles to check out beyond the ever-popular Stan Smith. Try rocking the three-stripes with a pair of 501s for a look that’s both endearingly retro and perfectly modern.
Sandals
Surprised? Sandals are popular this summer. In other news, water is wet, the sky is blue, etc. But what you might not have heard is that sandals are actually high fashion for the season with a heavy presence at this year’s Men’s Fashion Week for SS16. Some have gone so far as to say the long-derided fashion faux pas of socks with sandals is now acceptable, but we wouldn’t go that far. However, you should definitely invest in leather sandals or maybe even designer slides for the beach and elsewhere.
