A Lot In The Pot For Mayweather-Pacquiao
A Lot In The Pot
You’ve been living under a rock if you’re not aware of the event that is set to take place May 2nd of this year in Las Vegas. A welterweight showdown, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, is finally happening. This event has now been 5 years in the making, and all the hype has equated to the amount of money this boxing match will soon produce.
From the second “Mayweather-Pacquiao” was made official, both fighters’ promotional teams were attempting to double the overall gate record of $40 million. This made tickets (that were available to the public) range anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000. As March proceeded, the hype would only build and the demand only grew. Instantly the prices soared from $1,500 to $7,500 to max out at more than $50 million.
Now, we’re at the very end of March and just as you imagined, the ticket price has increased, reaching a max value of $10,000 for ringside seats. Meaning the arena has now been scaled to around a record breaking total of $74 million. And I haven’t even gotten to how much the fighters are making.
Floyd and Manny’s Winnings
We all remember the hostile social media exchange between G-unit’s own 50 Cent and Money Mayweather in the past year. 50 threw shade at his illiteracy, claiming he couldn’t read a page from J.K Rowling’s, Harry Potter series. Mayweather responded in the only way he knows best… dollar signs. Instantly tweeting a picture of 2 of his paychecks along with the caption, “Read this $72,276,000.00. God bless.” Those checks, in relevance to what he is predicted to make by May 2nd, are miniscule.
When you take into consideration the gate, pay-per-view sales, and the foreign television sales you are looking at the two fighters splitting a purse of about $300 million. Damn. As part of the contract, Mayweather and his camp get 60 percent of the revenue while Pacquiao’s gets 40 percent. So, when May 2nd is all over and done with, Floyd will make up to around $180 million while Pac takes home $120 mill. Seems like there will be no loser come May 2nd.
