Fantasy Football: 8th Pick
Round 1, Pick 8
As I said, running backs are overvalued. I am looking for Jimmy Graham if I can get him, and I did indeed get him at 8 in Round 1. I feel good having the most dominant player at his position fantasy wise.
Round 2, Pick 17
All of the running backs I valued in the first round are gone, so I am going to look to get one of my valued three quarterbacks in the 2nd round. I selected Peyton Manning at 17, and I am ecstatic to have the highest scoring tight end and quarterback after the first 2 rounds.
Round 3, Pick 32
As I said in the draft primer, there are a ton of receivers that are poised for big years. Don’t get me wrong, if a running back of value falls (Leveon Bell is the only real possibility), I want one of the big name receivers I targeted before the draft. Randal Cobb and Victor Cruz were available, and I chose Cobb because he is in the better offense in Green Bay.
Round 4, Pick 41
I am still looking at targeting the players I valued before the draft. Sticking to your draft strategy is pivotal, but flexibility is also a must. Here, i see one of my targeted players is still available with god value. Value is subjective, but i like to use his anticipated production in comparison to where the player is being drafted. I love DeSean Jackson playing AJ Green in Jay Gruden’s offense in Washington and I selected him.
Round 5, Pick 56
All seven of my targeted receivers have been drafted by the league at this point, and with a quarterback, 2 wide receivers, and 1 tight end, I started to look at filling my running back position. I love Trent Richardson this year as he is unchallenged for carries and is playing with a great quarterback. I reached for him here because I feel that I can afford to. There is nothing wrong with taking a flyer providing you aren’t depending on that flyer. This team will be carried by its quarterback, big play tight end and 2 big play receivers.
Round 6, Pick 65
Here, I chose Marques Colston as he is the lead receiver in a good offense with a good quarterback. He is also being undervalued due to the foot injury he played the majority of last year with. I am now done with my receiver position.
Round 7, Pick 80
I am now looking to fill out my last 2 running back positions. Again, I am looking for an unquestioned starter preferably in a good offense. I drafted the aging, oft-injured, Devonta Freeman challenged Steven jackson in Round 7
Round 8, Pick 89
Rounding out my running back position is not an unquestioned starter on what will probably be a bad offense. This is the risk you run when you draft running backs late. There are some available, and they may be starters, but they aren’t in good offenses with good quarterbacks. I took Maurice Jones-Drew, the starter in Oakland, but in a timeshare with Darren McFadden.
I was able to reinforce my running back position by drafting Miami starter Lamar Miller (9th), Carolina starter DeAngelo Williams (10th). I handcuffed Steven Jackson with Devonta Freeman (11th), DeAngelo Williams with Jonathan Stewart (13th), LaMar Miller with Knowshon Moreno (14th), and picked up a fourth receiver in rookie and presumed number one receiver in Carolina Kelvin Benjamin (12th).
