Drake On Top Of The World Just Chillin’
I recently shed light on the clash between ex Young Money artist Tyga and his former label mate Drizzy Drake Rogers. The two have traded virtual jabs on both social media and in their music. When Drake referenced the feud on “6PM In New York,” Tyga responded at a concert.
Absurd Numbers
Drizzy has been accruing them with his new mix tape release, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. After the “6 God” released his 15 minute short film Jungle (which I’m still trying to figure out), he thought he could pull a Beyonce and surprisingly drop a 17-song project 24 hours later.
Well, he thought right and his mastery of Spotify is a big reason why. According to Spotify, “IYRTITL” broke two records: the most streams from an album (in this case mix tape) in a week with 17.3 Million streams (impressive considering it was achieved in 3 days), and the most streams on one day alone (Saturday) with 6.8 millions streams. Mind blowing to say the least but… “You know how that s*** go, you know how that s*** go.”
Drake
According to Billboard, he accumulated a whopping 535,000 units since its release last week, 495,000 of which were off pure album sales! It hasn’t even been a full week yet! He didn’t even promote the album! This is freakin’ ‘Wheelchair Jimmy’! Oh brudder, what this man has accomplished has never been seen nor done before and I can’t wait to see what the numbers for his album “Views From The 6” will look like.
Side-note for you gossip lovers: It is all speculation, but “If Youre Reading This Its Too Late” might have been somewhat forcibly pushed out by Drake and his camp to fulfill his contract terms with Cash Money. This way if Lil’ Wayne were to eventually part ways with Birdman, Drake could accompany and release his album under Wayne’s new label he’s subject to develop. Again, all speculation.
