Cruz Weakness Is Exposed By Trump Questioning His Citizenship

The fact no other senator has come out to endorse him underlines the cruz weakness when it comes to allies.
Ted Cruz was probably a U.S. citizen from birth. His mother, Eleanor Darragh, was a U.S. citizen, born in 1934. Ted Cruz was born in 1970; his mother was 36 when she gave birth to him. Under the law, for births that take place outside the United States between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986, one U.S. parent “must have lived in the United States for at least ten years, with five of those years occurring after he or she was 14 years old.” Darragh had lived in the United States for more than ten years and five of those years had occurred after age 14. If you are United States citizen from birth, you are a natural-born citizen – no naturalization is required.
Cruz Weakness
RNC Chair Reince Priebus, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and 2008 GOP nominee for President Senator John McCain have all indicated to some degree that they “don’t know” whether cruz is a natural born citizen. Again, I think it’s a total non-issue, but with that said, it has exposed a Cruz weakness that threatens his candidacy. Cruz has made his name by lambasting the “Washington cartel” arguing that the “establishment” is the problem. He has built his reputation by setting the “establishment” on fire and pouring gasoline on it as often as he can. Why would he expect them to turn around and defend him?
Cruz has claimed that the Republican party is the problem. He blames them for failing to stop Obama. He’s done nothing to defend the party apparatus or establishment figures. Why should establishment figures do anything other than concern troll him as Trump is doing?
This is the biggest Cruz weakness. His “take no prisoners” approach is great for those on the far right, but helps him none in political campaigns where every candidate needs allies. This “issue” is a perfect example of one of those times.
Trump is now punching Cruz directly in the face questioning his religion and nationality. Cruz won’t or can’t punch back for fear of losing his spot as the second choice of Trump’s supporters. He wants covering fire from the “responsible people” in the party he’s done nothing but spit on. Why would they do anything but leave Cruz to twist in the wind?
Trump has exposed Cruz’s weakness, and it isn’t that he’s not a natural born citizen. It’s that he has no effective surrogates. The conservative media won’t go all-in to defend him because they don’t want to lose the ratings and the money that feeding Trump gives them. His fellow candidates won’t help him for obvious reasons, and he’s got no one in the Senate to help him as he is reviled there, and rightfully so.
