Carly Won The Debate But Lied About Planned Parenthood
I dare Hillary Clinton [and] Barack Obama to watch these tapes. Watch a fully-formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says, ‘We have to keep it alive to harvest its brain.’ This is about the character of our nation.
– Carly Fiorina
The GOP Debate
I’ve watched now all ten of these Planned Parenthood videos. Above, Carly is referring to the seventh video and an interview of a woman discussing a time when she saw a fetus alive on a table with its heart still beating, and being directed to operate to access the brain. There is no other corroborating evidence. There is no footage. There is no statement from the clinic. There is no actual record of this procedure ever being done.
The footage they do have of a baby fetus kicking, as videographers Center for Medical Progress admits, is from the Grantham Collection, not Planned Parenthood, and was only used for dramatic effect. It was not actual footage of an abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic, which is what Carly falsely claimed last night.
We do not know the context of how that footage was obtained or what it even depicts. It could have been an abortion, it could also have been a miscarriage or a premature birth. What was suggested, that this was an abortion at Planned Parenthood, is a gross misrepresentation of the footage. I urge you to watch the video for yourself.
Investigations
The single witness provides no corroborating evidence meaning there is really no grounds to investigate anything, but this is America, and at least 10 states have already investigated Planned Parenthood and whether any of their activities are illegal. Not one of them have found any evidence of any wrongdoing.
That’s right. The good, pro-life, blood-red Republican state officials in Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, South Dakota, and Georgia are certainly not supportive of Planned Parenthood, investigated Planned Parenthood in response to these videos, which we know was insufficient grounds to initiate in the first place, and turned up nothing. These conservative Republican governors, and their conservative Republican officials in their Attorney General’s offices, are not supportive of Planned Parenthood at all. They are duty bound to follow the law, and they know there is no legal basis to shutdown Planned Parenthood.
Baby Parts
Every state investigation into PP has made perfectly clear, that Planned Parenthood negotiates the legal compensation for the transport and storage of fetal organ tissue (baby parts). Again, whether you like it or not, whether you agree with it or not, getting compensated for providing fetal organ tissue (baby parts) to medical research clinics is totally, unambiguously legal.
