The Breeze: Who Is Michelle Amador?
Brooklyn-based singer songwriter Michelle Amador shares an incredible piece of news with the KTB crew.
Michelle Amador is a Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter. Michelle’s music has been featured on NPR, Swiss Television, and radio stations worldwide as well as through collaborative works that premiered at the Laumeiere Sculpture Garden and the Pasadena Museum of California Art.
Originally from Los Altos, California, Michelle has a BA in Political Science and a minor in Theater from USC. Since moving to Brooklyn, Michelle has been the Director of Business Development for the Issue Project Room (www.issueprojectroom.org), and the Director of Development for the Mark Morris Dance Group (markmorrisdancegroup.org)
Michelle has been described by critics as a new breed of musician. Her sound is reminiscent of the sophisticated soul of early jazz singers such as Etta James with the restraint of more contemporary vocalists like Cassandra Wilson, with her band having more in common with groups like Portishead thanks to its penchant for downtempo beats.
On a personal note: That announcement was in my opinion the coolest thing that has happened on the show. When we ask that question, the aim is to illicit a response that will lead to a followup and another topic. Needless to say that we were completely overwhelmed by the revelation.
As mentioned on the podcast, Michelle has an upcoming show 11/19 at Fontana’s. Her latest album is out now and can be purchased at michelleamadormusic.com.
