Sam Nunberg Is A Reflection of Trump’s Record On Race
Sam Nunberg, a Senior Trump political adviser, called President Barack Obama a “Socialist Marxist Islamo Fascist Nazi Appeaser” and “Farrakahn’s Messiah.” Additionally, he referred to Al Sharpton’s daughter as a “nigger”. The Trump campaign fired Nunberg, but his hiring suggests either a complete lack of due diligence on the part of the campaign, or tacit acceptance of these views.
Trump’s Record On Race
Professor Victor Goode outlines it in a Facebook post (Disclaimer: Professor Goode was my Constitutional Law professor at CUNY School of Law):
Donald Trump seems to be all the news in the GOP primaries. I remember Donald Trump as the man who took out a full page ad calling for the execution of the Central Park 5. He was well aware of how this ad simply stirred up the racial hysteria that surrounded that case. He also pandered to the long held racial stereotypes about “black savages” and threats to white womanhood and did it with clear purpose in mind.
He intentionally poisoned the atmosphere for simple due process of law and a fair trial. And when years later all five were found to be innocent because the real perpetrator had been overlooked by the police, he refused to issue an apology or even an admission that he was wrong. Had this happened in a different state one or all of these young men would have been executed. He also refused to recognize, despite supporting scientific evidence that police can skillfully coerce a confession from an innocent person.
He wore his power, his arrogance and his racist ad proudly, like a badge of honor, never to be questioned. After all, who should question wealth and power? And he will probably tell the public about all his black “friends” who know him to be free of bias and prejudice.
But his record tells a different story. That ad and the way that he handled it is what sociologist would call “objective racism,” an act so obviously biased that by any measures it deserves our condemnation. Yet few outside of the black community are willing to do so. The fact that the press continues to falter in telling that story to the public speaks to the influence of power and money and the bankrupt nature of this whole so called election process. It’s also late july when main stream media is too lazy to actually do reporting and so conduct softball interviews and pass them off as news.
Trump’s earlier comments on Mexican immigrants combined with his actions in the Central Park 5 case, gives us a good idea of his record on race. In 2015 America, I think it will prove to be a loser, but I have been surprised before. Know that Sam Nunberg is but a symptom of the contempt for those who are not white and/or rich by Donald Trump.
