The Charm Podcast w/ Bunny: Internet Lies
Today on The Charm, I explore some of my most loathed lies of the internet.
There is almost nothing I hate more than easily fact-checkable things being passed around as fact. NOTHING. Not even serial killers. Especially not lady serial killers. I really can’t stand it when it seems like people aren’t even using their bullshit detectors! And a figure that seems to fool a lot of people is Marilyn Monroe. For example, she was not a modern size 16, despite her curvaceous figure or quotes from Roseanne. Internet lies.
Speaking of quotes, the following ones, despite having made their way onto schmaltzy inspirational posters were never said by historic figures:
I’m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I’m out of control, and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.”
“I believe in PINK”
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
Really, guys? Really?
They’re all inventions of the 21st century it would seem. And they’ve made their way onto actual, non-internet shit that gives even more of the illusion of validity. Internet lies. They must be stopped!
See how something can become supposed “common knowledge” so quickly with the help of the internet? So let this be a lesson to you, always use SNOPES, those people are doing God’s work. I mean it really is not that hard to check something out. I have been berating people to check their shit for a decade now, you will rue the day you send me some alarmist bullshit based on nothing.
So please, if you don’t want me to get all huffy. Double check that shit before you click SHARE, check Snopes.
It’s really not hard.
